The NSR Method

The nervous system before the muscle, always.

The NSR Method is a somatic framework built on one premise: the nervous system governs every result a client gets from training. Understand it first. Prescribe second.

The core question

Why good programming isn't always enough.

A well-designed programme delivered to a dysregulated nervous system doesn't produce the results it should. The system is allocating resources towards protection rather than adaptation.

The NSR Method asks: what is the nervous system doing right now, and what does that mean for what I'm about to deliver?

Conventional starting point

Which exercises? Which load? Which technique needs fixing?

NSR starting point

What state is the nervous system in? What is the load tolerance today?

Five steps · one practical logic

The ORERI Framework

O

Observe

Assess nervous system state before any prescription.

R

Regulate

Create the conditions to receive training.

E

Explore

Introduce movement with curiosity and no performance expectation.

R

Release

Support moments when protective patterns begin to reduce.

I

Integrate

Reinforce the new pattern with deliberate repetition.

ORERI is a way of thinking, not a rigid sequence. You may cycle through it several times in one session.

What you'll learn to see

The four autonomic states in every training room.

Ventral Vagal Regulation

Fluid movement, regulated breath and genuine engagement. This is where adaptation occurs.

Sympathetic Overactivation

The over-braced client who cannot genuinely rest. Regulation first.

Protective Guarding

Targeted neurological restriction, a nervous system protection response.

Dorsal Vagal Shutdown

Flat affect and exhaustion after moderate sessions. Patience and warmth, not pressure.

Grounded in

Polyvagal Theory

A framework for understanding how the autonomic nervous system moves between safety and protection.

Pain neuroscience

How the brain produces pain, restriction and protective motor output in response to perceived threat.

Somatic science

How awareness, movement and breath influence regulation, interoception and adaptive change.
